I spend my day monitoring the fleet for a large car rental company and make sure cars are back for service or sold on to manufacturers. My departments ruling of using a car is meant to be law, the people in branches are meant to be clued up degree educated people but then wonder why we chew them out when they do the opposite of what we say, my example:
CALLER: Can I use this car ....
ME: No it's in need of a service so not road safe and we're lucky we're getting money back as we're selling it to a dealer.
CALLER: Oh ok.
5mins later same caller...
CALLER: I can't assign this car.
ME: I told you you can't use it.
CALLER: Well I put it out anyway so now what are you going to do? (Smug tone noticed)
ME: Nothing, I'm going to let you call the director and explain why you thought me saying no is cause to do the opposite.
CALLER: Why would you do that? I'll go stop them and get it back.
ME: You do that.
